I felt it time to report on events beyond the usual patrols and training. As recorded attacks by rebel cultists seem to have abated I was expecting to leave the planet soon to rejoin our Chapter in action elsewhere. My reasoning here has been proved wrong.

:: Report begins ::

Evidently the importance of the Red Shroud artefact previously found has somehow turned the gaze of the Inquisition to our part of the galaxy.

We have been aware some time of the Grey Knights operation in the system's fifth planet, but so far their presence has remained a distant non-incursive affair to be watched but worried over.

However, last week we were blessed by the sudden arrival of an Inquisitor aboard one of the Ordo's fast strikecruisers the Ultimate Sanction. This individual has been with us within the Fortress for three days thus far, in deep conversation with Interrogator-Chaplain Zuriel as well as interviewing the squad who discovered the Red Shroud [reported earlier].

This poses difficulties for us obviously as it was originally thought that Chaos activity here to be the remnants of renegade factions but the discovery of both the Red Shroud (as a possible Warp porting device) and the Black Pyramid points towards another conclusion. And of course our interest in certain of the faction's leadership must for now remain purely our own business.

The appearance of the Inquisition points to them drawing their own conclusions as to the reason for so much Warp activity in this system. It would seem prudent to reason that the Grey Knights mentioned in a previous report will eventually join forces with this Inquisitor — possibly with joint military cooperations likely with us too. Already units of the Ash Legion (the local Planetary Defence Force) have been put under his immediate jurisdiction and companies of Arbites under Marshall Van Urratia levied from all parts of the system and put on readiness.

Whatever is happening on this planet and in this system has drawn many strands of the Imperium together — with events gathering momentum if yet without cohesive reason.

But a few details on the Inquisitor himself. He is known to us a Sanz Rodemstev and apparently is of quite a high rank as he has with him various personnel commensurate with such, including a personal guard of Grey Knight terminators under the command of a Brother-Captain. It is rare indeed that such a body of troops be sent anywhere for the amusement of it. I can only surmise (though without seeing them) that this elite squad are a battle worthy unit rather than one merely for show.

Rodemstev himself looks nothing like a warrior. He is of normal height and build, free of Astartes enhancements and is of an indeterminate age. He has extensive mechanical augmetics — chiefly and most visibly his right arm which is entirely the work of servo-technology. He is dressed simply in grey, his only ostentation his fur-trimmed cloak, a much tattered item that carries the insignia of the Ordo Malleus. The only weapons he appears to carry are an ornate plasma pistol with an ivory handle inlaid with copper and silver designs wrought of the highest craftsmanship, and a dagger, presumably decorative due to its small size, but possibly powered or containing neural fibres.

More than that of the Inquisitor I cannot tell as I have yet to speak with him.

:: Report ends ::

Further observations on the Grey Knights and their impact on our activities will no doubt follow.

Until the Sword is reforged.
