It has been a while since I have last made contact with you – I humbly apologise.
The garrison has seen much change and development over the intervening months, with many of the original squads and units reorganised and some returning to Caliban, leaving a much different force here to search for the Red Shroud web portal. The main defence of the listening station itself has been passed over to the [xxxx] of the Ash Legion planetary defence force.
You will be aware of course of my mission here. And so far I have gleaned much that I shall pass over to your scrutiny. And in furtherance of this I shall make brief reference to the Grey Knights operating in our sector and sometimes here on [xxxx] too. Here are my findings:
:: Report begins ::
I have observed an aloofness beyond the normal inter-chapter rivalry whenever direct contact has needed to be made with these warriors of the Ordo Malleus. They are led by an acting Brother-Captain of a particularly zealous disposition, who regards the presence of any Astartes and the Dark Angels especially as a burden to be endured. From our point of view little information apart from that required by protocol has been transferred, and the Grey Knights are unaware at present of the Red Shroud (and other portal devices as yet undiscovered) as well as the true significance of the Black Pyramid that we ourselves are still studying. There is also rumoured to be an Inquisitor present, although he has not yet been seen nor his identity known.
We must remain careful not to arouse the suspicions of the Inquisition in both these matters and to this end great work has been done by Interrogator-Chaplain Zuriel in layering obfuscations and delaying measures over many of our own activities here. This of course too great risk to himself if discovered.
The attached members of the Librarius and Techmarines have secured for themselves a working area deep within the Dark Fortress to further study both phenomenon, guarded constantly be two squads of Deathwing terminators [Harshiel and Sath] selected due to their singularly powerful anti-Warp psychic protection first observed during the second assault on the Black Pyramid. Indeed squad Sath has been allocated as the personal bodyguard to Librarian Mehabiah.
It is hoped that by these measure our work here can carry on uninterrupted. We cannot risk the likelihood of any more Fallen using another Red Shroud and us not being here to capture them. As far as the Grey Knights are concerned we are here to protect the deep space augars as well as quelling the various and expanding PDF rebellions rife in the southern hemisphere of this planet. On this matter we are still no clearer as to the power-broker behind the scenes, but we have suspicions it could be Fallen 171 (code named the Unseen). Of course this too has been carefully shielded from our Ordos allies.
As to their mission we have little information other than that gleaned by a freighter captain who had his vessel recently boarded by Grey Knight terminators who proceeded made a thorough search of all cargos — showing great interest in lithium ore fuel capsules and particulate accelerators from sector [xxxx] — a strange target for their suspicions to be sure. Perhaps indeed they are playing a similar game of bluff and counter-bluff that we are, suspecting everyone and trusting no-one.
On a personal level I have great interest in their Aegis Armour. Never having seen this up close before I recently took the opportunity for a surreptitious examination at close hand during the occasion of a Tactical Command meeting with the Governor Satrap of this quadrant. I was amazed at the antiquity of the armour. Despite its sheen and polish the particular panoply I observed (worn by a Justicar attending) was much repaired and altered to suit the wearer, with supplementary power and medicae housings observed within the backpack, and channeled communications with the helmet of a kind I have not observed before. The runic litanies inset into the armour were also of a newer age — perhaps formulated with this current mission in mind — a detail which I found fascinating.
Of the Nemesis I could not get a good close view, but saw it merely as a power glaive carried in the right hand. No outward sign of its formidable power could be gleaned, apart from an armoured-cabled control trigger mounted in the handpiece. The Justicar's storm bolter was detached from his left glove and was never seen, presumably it was left aboard the Grey Knights' strikecruiser.
::Report ends::
Further observations on the Grey Knights and their impact on our activities will no doubt follow.
